Concern and nostalgia mixed at the Iworo Ajido Model College Old Students Association, Badagry (IAMCOSAB) Annual Reunion on December 26, 2025, as alumni reflected on the school’s decline and called on the Lagos State Government to intervene. Amid festivities and donations of chairs, desks, and cash prizes to current students, the condition of the campus cast a shadow over the celebration.
Mr. Oyedele Okelowo, National President of IAMCOSAB, recalled the school’s former prestige. "When I graduated in the 1980s, we had science laboratories and modern facilities," he said. He stressed that although the government has made some efforts, the school—serving students from over seven communities and sometimes accommodating more than 1,000 pupils—remains in urgent need of structural upgrades. "Budget allocations exist but rarely materialize. We cannot let this institution, which has produced influential citizens, continue to decay."
National Secretary Mufutau Musibau Olusegun highlighted the daily challenges facing students and teachers. "By early afternoon, the classrooms are unbearably hot, making it impossible for teachers to continue lessons. The infrastructure is simply inadequate." His remarks underscored the real-life consequences of years of neglect.
Professor Olusegun Whenu, an alumnus from the 1983 cohort, observed that the school’s original buildings show significant wear and tear. He urged collaboration between the government, local industries, and the alumni network to create an enabling learning environment. "Some classrooms lack doors and windows, and roofs leak. While alumni contributions help, sustainable solutions require more than temporary fixes," he noted.
Former student Prince Adebayo Kamoru (class of 1994/95) provided a striking testimony. "Students are often forced to sit on the floor, using stones or makeshift materials as desks. Witnessing this was heartbreaking. Urgent intervention is required, including proper structures and regulated class sizes."
Despite the challenges, the reunion served as a reminder of the school’s lasting legacy. Alumni continue to support the institution, but IAMCOSAB President Okelowo emphasized that long-term solutions depend on consistent government action. The association’s tradition of walking through the school compound each year remains a vital method for assessing needs and planning advocacy efforts.
