A non-governmental organisation, the Great Minds of Love Foundation, has held an end-of-year get-together for widows in Badagry, Lagos State, distributing food items and gift palliatives as part of its humanitarian outreach during the festive season.
The event, which brought together widows from different communities within the Badagry axis, was aimed at offering emotional support, encouragement and material assistance at a period often described as challenging for vulnerable groups.
Speaking at the gathering, the founder of the foundation, Mrs Rebecca Gbededo, said the initiative was designed to demonstrate compassion and restore hope among widows, particularly during the end-of-year period when many face increased social and economic pressures. She reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting widows and other less-privileged members of society through sustained interventions.
Another speaker at the event, Mrs Yebovi, addressed the widows on parenting and long-term family wellbeing. She noted that while many parents hope their children will be a source of support later in life, such expectations are shaped by the quality of upbringing, care and values instilled during childhood.
She encouraged the widows not to lose heart in the face of challenges, urging them to remain patient, prayerful and intentional in raising their children. According to her, consistent investment in education, discipline, moral values and character development would, in time, yield positive outcomes.
The guest speaker, Mrs Ologbon, advised the widows to live within their means and make responsible life choices. She cautioned against unhealthy relationships and stressed the importance of self-worth, discipline and moral conduct, while also highlighting the need for proper nutrition and personal wellbeing.
The programme also featured prayer sessions led by various ministers, who offered prayers for strength, healing, divine provision and renewed hope for the widows.
Also present at the event was Mr Miwawuwe Hunge, founder of the Miwawuwe Foundation, who commended the organisers for their consistency and dedication to supporting widows in Badagry.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the foundation and its supporters, describing the outreach as timely and impactful, and applauding the organisers for what they described as a genuine show of care and solidarity.
