The Lagos State Government has announced the cancellation of the #GreaterLagosFiesta 2025, which was scheduled to take place on December 31, 2025, as part of activities marking the end of the year.

The decision was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Gboyega Akosile, following approval by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

According to the statement, residents are encouraged to use the period that would have been dedicated to the annual countdown celebration for personal prayers for Nigeria, Lagos State and its people. The governor called on Lagosians to reflect and pray for continued prosperity, peace, leadership, productivity and overall wellbeing across the state.

The Greater Lagos Fiesta, often described as a major end-of-year entertainment event, typically attracts large crowds across multiple locations in the state. However, the government said this year’s cancellation was aimed at promoting a more reflective and peaceful transition into the new year.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also extended his goodwill message to residents, expressing optimism about the year ahead. He assured Lagosians that 2026 holds great promise for both the state and the country, reiterating his administration’s commitment to working harder to deliver improved governance and services.

“On behalf of my family, I wish every resident of our dear state a happy and prosperous New Year,” the governor said. “I want to assure you that 2026 will be a better year for us, as our administration remains determined to work twice as hard to deliver good governance for the people of Lagos State.”

Residents were further urged to continue living together in peace and harmony as the new year begins.
